The Øresund Region has a long tradition of basic research and extensive experience of joint-projects in a number of areas.

On a global perspective the region lies at the forefront in areas such as medicine and biotechnology, IT, environmental engineering and food technology, logistics and design.

Ranked third in Europe
The Øresund Region is ranked third in Europe regarding research and development in medicine and biotechnology/life science. The region is surpassed only by Paris and London, but is ahead of Oxford-Reading, Cambridge, Berlin and Brussels-Antwerp.

This prominent position is the result of constructive and innovative collaboration between universities, colleges, industry and the public sector in The Øresund Region.

Cross-border collaboration
The international doctorate-candidates are another notable development of the interdisciplinary and cross-border collaboration in The Øresund Region. Many people work or research on the other side of Øresund - a factor that helps to reinforce the region's research-network.
