The Øresund Region – the Nordic logistics hub

The geographical position of the Øresund Region as a gateway to the Baltic and a hub in Northern Europe has made the Region a powerful logistics centre. Today, the Øresund Region tops Scandinavian tables in the field of handling goods. This is the reason why many international companies have moved their central Nordic warehouses to the Region.

Well-developed infrastructure improves accessibility
One of the aspects that helped the Øresund Region succeed in developing into a powerful logistics centre is its finely developed infrastructure. The Region has well-developed road and rail networks, two international airports and a number of large ports.

Smart products
Another advantage for the logistics sector in the Region is the proliferation of technologically advanced products. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is the name of a new generation of technology that can be used to identify, track and trace products. Products, packages and vehicles need simply be fitted with a transponder – an RFID tag – which can then be read wirelessly via a system of antennae. Within the Øresund Region, there is already a wealth of knowledge and skill in mobile radio systems, IT, foods and packaging, and there is much to indicate that in future, the Region may well grow into a world leader in intelligent logistics with smart products and packaging.
