Best result ever for Copenhagen and Malmö ports
The freight volumes increase for Copenhagen Malmö Port (CMP), which prepares for a new wave of investments. CMP will concentrate on investment in bulk and cars, writes the news agency idag.dk.
There was a 10 per cent increase in handled freight compared to 2005. The profit improved by 16 per cent and reached DKK 75 million. Turnover rose to approximately DKK 530 million.
In particular CMP is interested in investing in car and bulk business.
- We will provide more space for new cars in Malmö Freeport and we will build an extra pier for tankers at Prøvestenen in Copenhagen . In this way loading and unloading will be much quicker, says market manager Arnt Møller Petersen.
In Malmö, CMP is planning a new container terminal and combi-terminal as an extension to the ferry terminal, providing the best possible opportunities for trans-shipping between ship, train and lorry. The new terminals will form the setting for a large international logistic park.
- We will use the terminals to develop our position as the central port in the Øresund Region and to exploit our international potential,” says Arnt Møller Petersen.
He adds that presently CMP serves as the central hub for car imports in the Baltic Region and also enjoys a strong position when it comes to transit oil.
