The Øresund Region is the largest pharmaceutical and biotechnology centre in Scandinavia, and the centre in Europe with the greatest potential for growth. Medicon Valley – already a well-established concept on the global stage – encapsulates this area. In terms of size, the region ranks third in Europe, after London and Paris, for medical and biotechnology research.

The biotechnology industry employs around 40,000 people, 4,000 of whom are academic researchers. International companies with major research centres in the region include Novo Nordisk, Lundbeck, LEO Pharma, Ferring, Astra Zeneca and Gambro.
